ICHI aims to develop the skills of Scottish professionals who train or coach others in the field of heritage interpretation and tourism. This will be done through a programme of exchanges with partners in four European countries: Our European Partners work in a variety of contexts including cultural tourism, ‘living heritage’, traditional construction techniques and reconstruction, tourist network development and museums. Suitable applicants must be in a position to pass on their learning to others through formal or informal means. Applicants could include lecturers in academic institutions as well as people in organisations where staff share knowledge through internal seminars, lectures, bulletins or publications. For the project to be a success, it must be demonstrated that learning is shared with other people. Flights, insurance, and subsistence are all covered by the project.

Southern Slovakia’s Wooden Churches, Fossils and Traditional Skills 23 - 30th May 2010
The exchange to the Ipel Union in Southern Slovakia includes many unique opportunities to see heritage interpretation. We will visit a “rare historic jewel” the wooden church at Hronsek which was built in the year 1726 without a belfry or using any iron nails. The Catholic church relented to pressure and allowed the protestants to build a church on a small piece of land but with certain conditions, which resulted in this beautiful church. The foundations form a cross and the seating is raised in tiers with everyone sitting around the alter as one big family. Outside are four linden trees, two as old as the church. We will visit the Salka skills centre where young people can live and learn various traditional skills such as basket weaving, carpet, rope and felt making and jewellery in a challenging and enjoyable way helping to keep these traditional skills alive.
